The history of Albany located in the Great Southern Region of Western Australia. This book was published to commemorate 150 years since the foundation of the town.
Originally a remote penal outpost of the Colony of New South Wales, Albany struggled against many odds to establish pastoralism, whaling and sealing and an important mail steamer service.
Throughout the 19th Century, Albany was WA's major port. By the 20th Century, the economic life of the town was boosted by when Albany became a troop port during WWI. The town however has struggled through many ups and downs before the combination of agriculture, port activity and tourism brought stability to the town.
