Book Description

Secondhand. Good condition. Wear to book corners and edges. Marks on front and back covers. Inscribed by author.

A fascinating collection of stories about a bunch of resourceful stockmen on Western Australia's south coast: focusing on the exploits and adventures of Bill Ipsen, it is a forthright account of droving skill and superior bushcraft in moving hundreds of cattle across untamed country. The stories, spanning 60 years of endeavour and involving some of the South West's legendary bush characters, are spiced with honest bush humour and laced with drama and danger.

As a great great grandson of Manjimup pioneer settler John Giblett, Bill Ipsen was born into an established farming family. By his late teens, Bill had mastered the art of bushcraft and developed into a supreme horseman and a skilled hunter.

Over the following 35 years, he reinforced the family reputation for innovative farming techniques involving classic cattle drives through the majestic karri country to the coast beyond and, above all, a capacity to survive in the harsh economic environments imposed by depressed farm prices, wars, fires, floods and the advent of new technology.
