Situated at 9 Servetus St, Swanbourne, Tom Collins House was built by the novelist and poet, Joseph Furphy, in 1908. Furphy had built the small wooden workers' cottage shortly after arriving in Western Australia, to join his sons who had established a foundry in Fremantle.
In 1949, Furphy's son donated the house to the Fellowship of Australian Writers. In the late 1990s, the State Government relocated the house to Allen Park as part of the redevelopment of the West Coast Highway. The house was heritage listed in 1999. (Fellowship of Australian Writers WA website)
