Book Description

Secondhand. Very good condition. Minor wear to book corners and edges. Interior and binding are still very good. Signed by author.

The plateau of Tamborine Mountain lies in the Gold Coast Hinterland. There are three towns on the plateau - North Tamborine, Eagle Heights and Mount Tamborine. In the 1870s, the first selectors settled on the mountain blocks. Settlement was slow, with access difficult and clearing onerous.

After settlement, timber-getting was tried as a means of earning a living, and numerous varieties of crops were grown with varying success. Still, it was not until orchards came to maturity and dairying began early in the 20th century that a viable living was possible for farmers on the Mountain. The 20th century also brought tourism, writers and artists.
