Chester Wilmont (1911-1954) was an Australian war correspondent who was attached to the British Army during WWII, attended the Nuremberg trials and spent six years researching for this book.

His book The Struggle for Europe was a best seller and is still highly regarded as one of the most important works on the war in Europe.
