The Gordon Bennett Story is the biography of Lieutenant General Gordon Bennett, who is noted in history as the commander of the 2nd AIF's 8th Division and the disastrous campaign against the Japanese in Malaya during 1941-1942, and his escape from Singapore just prior to the Fall of Singapore.
The book covers his outstanding World War I Service, his World War II service and his controversial escape before the Fall of Singapore in 1942. Also includes information from when he was at loggerheads with the Government and the Military Board in Australia over defence policy, ranging to World War II and his sensational escape from Singapore.
His vivid diaries are extensively quoted, including a brilliant condensed history of Gallipoli in which Gordon, wounded in action, slipped away from the ship's hospital at night to rejoin his men.
