This fascinating book serves as a bridge between Rica Erikson's two loves - botany and history. It is the biography of James Drummond (1784-1863), who was born in Hawthornden, Scotland and arrived in Western Australia on the Parmelia in 1829.
He was the first resident government naturalist/botanist, and his family established the property of Hawthornden in the Toodyay Valley near where Rica lived at Bolgart. (State Library of WA).
