A brief insight into the colourful past of the upper Yorke Peninsula in South Australia, its Cornish influence, mining heritage and historic buildings.
Chapters include the beginning, the Australian-Cornish cottage and focus on early Wallaroo, Moonta and their mines and early Kadina.
When copper was discovered on the upper Yorke Peninsula, Cornish miners were attracted to the area from failing mines elsewhere. In their field, these people were regarded as some of the world's most capable and experienced men.
With a biannual Cornish Festival being held, the former mining centre is back in the public eye, this time as a tourist attraction.
Century-old buildings associated with the mining era are now crumbling and being bulldozed into piles of rubble. Some of the buildings have been removed, and others are marked for demolition.
Includes many photographs.
