Walter Eatts was born in Derby in 1937. His mother, Mable Ita Fredrick, was one of the stolen children, taken from her mother's arms in Halls Creek, Jaru Country, Western Australia and raised at the Beagle Bay Mission. Walter spent his childhood in Derby and the Charters Towers in Queensland, and finally, he was with his father's relatives in Kellerberrin.
Married to Doolan Leisha, Walter worked as a painter, stockman, drover, and horse breaker. He is a poet, author and youth worker. He was NAIDOC male Elder of the Year in 2001 and 2016.
