This book, a companion volume to the Author's Towards Industrial Peace in Australia (published in 1937), throws further light on the policy adopted and the methods pursued in Australia for the solution of labour problems. These problems are examined chiefly in their relation to wages and hours of work (with chapters devoted to a particular study of the pastoral and coal industries), but space is found for a consideration of the difficult sweating (sweat-shop) problem.
In an appendix, the author outlines his suggestions for improving the regulative machinery of the Commonwealth as it operates in normal times, while the addenda deal at some length with important changes introduced to meet wartime exigencies.
The book is fully documented and indexed. There is an introduction by D B Copland.
