This book combines the journal and diary extracts of the authors ancestors with her poetry. Fairbairn's maternal forebears were the Camerons and the Munroes from Scotland who settled in the Australian bush in the mid 19th Century. Her paternal forebears, the Reids also came to Australia in the mid 19th Century but settled in urban areas.
