Between Hitler's rise to power in 1933 and the end of WWII, Australia received a number of unaccompanied refugee and evacuee children from the United Kingdom, Europe, South-East Asia and the Pacific. The numbers were small, with the Australian Government reluctant to offer refuge to children in need and the experiences of these children were not always happy ones.
Reluctant Refuge tells the story of these children, examining their backgrounds, the cre they received, their adjustment to life in Australia without their families and the additional wrench of repatriation. (back cover)
