Following the death of James Keith Stirling Houison in 1968, his collection of glass lantern slides were passed to the Society of Australian Genealogists. While attempting to identify some of the images, Shylie Brown recognised many Parramatta buildings.
The photographs had been taken by Henry Beaufoy Merlin in 1870. Merlin captures life in a colonial town including buildings, street scenes and people.
