Jack Bohemia was born in the early 20th century near Fitzroy Crossing, of Jaru and Gooniyandi descent, and was initiated as a Gooniyandi man. Until he retired in 1975, he worked with Western Australian Police as a tracker, apprehending thieves and murderers, finding lost people, and forcibly removing sick Aboriginal people to hospital. Jack's work experiences were often extremely violent and horrifying. (back cover)
