Jame Thomson was a well-known journalist, journalist and editor who emigrated with his family to Victoria in 1853. He spent several years working for Victorian newspapers, travelling the world as secretary to various parliamentary boards and royal commissions. In 1888 Thomson became a commission for the Melbourne Centennial International Exhibition.

In 1894, Thomson was commissioned by the Melbourne Age to write about Western Australia. In Perth and Geraldton, Thomson mixed with the like of Sir John Forrest and was known as a witty raconteur. While living in Cue and was responsible for establishing two newspapers - the Murchison Times and Day Dawn Gazette. (Source: Australian Dictionary of Biography website)
