New Faces is a collection of articles that examine the impact of post-war immigration on the structure and quality of immigrant families and on the broader patterns of life in Australia. The book is a collection of articles by experts, following the findings of a 1964 seminar on Immigration and Family Life in Australia.
Australian society has adapted well to the influx of new settlers and has developed significantly as a result. People with old, traditional cultural patterns are entering a new, younger culture and are facing the challenge of developing a rich, mature civilisation.
A considerable proportion of immigrants have also found in Australia a way of life suitable to their outlook and needs, but some migrants are particularly susceptible to mental illness, others have special problems of assimilation, while the attitudes of host and immigrant are often open to criticism. There is also an examination of the migrant's economic, social and political activities, which draw some highly revealing conclusions.
