John Edge was born in Leicester in 1910. He lived a typical working-class life, leaving school early to earn his keep. In 1929, aged eighteen, Jack migrated to Western Australia. He soon became one of the thousands of unemployed men seeking work across the state. During his two years in Australia, Jack travelled through the State.

This book is compiled from his letters and reminisces.
