Henry Trigg, a carpenter by trade, arrived at the Swan River Colony in October 1829 as a free settler and started a business as a builder and contractor. Winning several contracts for government buildings, including the original barracks in Barrack Street, he was appointed Superintendent of Works in 1838. He held this vital position in the colony until his resignation in 1851.
Throughout his years, he was actively involved in the social welfare of the colony and was instrumental in the foundation of the Congregational Church in Western Australia.
