An educational resource for secondary schools that documents the extensive, often overlooked, military contributions of Indigenous Australians from the First World War to the present. It covers the Boer War, WWI (Gallipoli, Western Front), WWII, the Vietnam War, and modern-day peace operations.
This resource explores the stories of some of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who have served Australia or contributed on the home front during wartime. It is drawn from the exhibition Indigenous Australians at war, from the Boer War to the present, developed by the Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne in 2009.
The sources include photographs, artworks, oral histories, letters, poems, media articles, official documents and exhibition text. It includes student activities to enhance students' knowledge and skills, and also to develop their empathy.
All profits from the sale of this book go to the Bunbury RSL.
