Hakeas offer much potential in salt tolerance, shade, erosion control, fauna corridors and windbreaks. Many species are ornamental with attractive flowers, and many are nectar-producing.

Hakeas are only found in Australia. In the southwest of Western Australia, there are 100 record species. Of these, at least 44 are known to occur naturally in the Botanical District of Avon. (Introduction)
