The exhibition covered the period of Australian art from 1885 to shortly after the turn of the 20th Century. Popularly known as the Heidelburg School, their painting ranged far beyond the bush around Melbourne. They painted the Sydney Harbour, Hawesbury River, Australia's emerging cities, beaches and the leisure moments of Australian society. (Preface)
