This book is a facsimile of Jules Raeside's 1929 publication. The book is dedicated to the author's brother, John Reside, the first MLA for the new seat of Hannan, who died suddenly in 1902.

The book presents a history of the Western Australian goldfields from the discovery of gold to the roaring 1920s. The book is a mixture of anecdotes, reminiscences and descriptive social, mining and biographical history.
