Secondhand. Very good condition. Minor wear to book corners and edges. Sunning to foredges and inside covers. Interior and binding are still excellent.
Based on research in Australia, Malta, and London, Empire and Race examines the forces that both supported and opposed the Maltese and Australian migration policies.
The first small wave of assisted Maltese migrants to Australia arrived in Queensland in the early 1880s. By the 1920s, Australia had become a most favoured destination, but the numbers were relatively small. It was not until 1949 that the assisted passage agreement opened the doors to large numbers.
Life in Australia was never easy for the Maltese and was exacerbated by racially inspired restrictions, particularly during World War I. (back cover)
