This richly illustrated work provides a pageant in words and pictures of the houses built and occupied by early settlers of Northern Tasmania. More than 130 houses are illustrated and described in detail. The text contains brief accounts of the original owners, their arrival in the colony, their grants or purchases of land, and accounts from early visitors to some of the houses.
This is the abridged edition of the 1964 limited edition two-volume work. It includes all buildings appearing in the original edition, and three dwellings and two churches have been added.
