The history of organs up to 1910, with the main emphasis on the instruments installed in churches and public buildings of Victoria.
Over 10 years of research have been devoted to gathering information about 500 organs built by more than 60 organbuilders.
The book was written for people who enjoy organ music and for those interested in the history of men who came to Victoria before 1900 to establish or take part in the organbuilding industry. It gives historical information about early churches, some of which are now vanished.
It is largely based on several thousand early letters of George Fincham, organbuilder; newspapers; church records and parliamentary papers, who built the majority of organs in Victoria during the 19th century.
Also includes facts about early organs, churches, architects and builders.
