This is the story of one of Australia's largest export industries. It began with the landing of the First Fleet, when four cows, one bull, and a male calf were landed at Cattle Point. The animals thrived and, within a few years, had become a large herd.
This book discusses the people who built the cattle industry: the Durack family, Sir Sydney Kidman, Nathaniel Buchanan, and Dr John Flynn.
Also included are some rollicking stories of cattle drives, a bush fire, droughts and floods, and rounding up brumbies, all written in the 1880s by people who were there to provide a glimpse of the human side of this period. (book flap)
