This book captures the oral histories and autobiographical accounts of two Aboriginal men, Waddi Boyoi and Johnny Walker, reflecting on their lives in the East Kimberley and Northern Territory Top End regions.
Waddi Boyoi was born around the turn of the 20th century in a time of violence on the East Kimberley frontier. He passed away in 1984. Waddi was a man of strong spirit, good humour, gentle with children and mostly preoccupied with traditional law. He was one of the community's important law men.
Johnny Walker, of a similar age to Waddi, came to the East Kimberley in 1912 and spent his life on cattle stations. His latter years were sedentary, enforced by failing eyesight. His verandah was a lively place, visited by many people who kept him abreast of community life. (back cover)
