Booklet produced by the Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame celebrating Australia's stockmen, written by legendary Luke McCall (1932-2018).
The majority of stockmen came from small cattle towns or farms, and most of them learnt to ride bareback as soon as they could walk; they also learnt that all stock had to be cared for and treated well.
Between the late 1940s and early 1960s was a period of dramatic change which ushered drovers and their teams out of our lives as the road trains and helicopters roared into history.
The booklet gives a good snapshot of the role of the head stockman, Aboriginal stockmen, camp cooks, jackeroos, horse tailers and horse bells, mustering, horses, open drafting and face work, using drafting yards, droving camps and bullock tailers.
