Harry Griffith and his wife migrated to Australia in the 1920s. After four years in the Victorian home mission, they were sent to the newly established Methodist Inland Mission at Katherine.

The Griffiths were eventually sent to Alice Spring where they established the first Protestant church in Central Australia and Griffith House, a hostel for needy children.
