It moves from the hardship of life in the Wheatbelt Region, through the Depression, Second World War and expanding opportunities for women in the 1950s. The first half of the book focuses on the life of Ida and Battley Swift, from Sheffield, who were early settlers at East Kondut and is written by Anne Rogers. The second half of the book contains autobiographical chapters written by Swift descendants.
