Victoria Park-born Robert Mitford Rowell was a stock, station and shipping agent in Derby from 1938 to 1970. He was the most influential businessman and community leader in the West Kimberley during his full-time residency there. He was the longest serving JP in WA history. He was awarded an OBE for his services as well as Honorary Freeman of the Shire of West Kimberley and Life Memberships of the Pastoralists and Graziers Association Inc of WA and the Liberal Party of Western Australia.
