As each new farming district was settled, small-scale dairy farming was established on many farms, providing a regular income that supported the infant wool, cereal and beef industries. Butter factories were established at inland centres, which are now considered entirely unsuitable for dairy farming.
However, the main body of the industry was developed in the South West of the State, from Perth to Augusta, to Manjimup and Northcliffe and across to Albany, in the period between the two world wars. (Foreword)
