Isaac Henry Betterridge was born at Moorabool, near Ballarat in 1886. He served and died in World War One on the French battlefield. His story is told through the letters and postcards he sent to his beloved sister Eve and through his notebook and diary. It is an intimate account of his travels from Australia via Cape Town, England and to France.
This was a very personal project for Phyllis Barnes as Harry was her uncle. Ms Barnes uses her considerable writing and research expertise gained from her other books to deliver a family history that is of interest to anyone wanting a first hand account of WWI.
It is an excellent example of family history writing. Memorabilia such as Harry's postcards to Eve provide extensive illustration throughout the book, showing how family mementos and keepsakes can be used to record and share family legacies.
