In 1837 the Petrie family settled in Brisbane, a village of about ten buildings. Their son Tom Petrie was brought up amongst the Aboriginals, learning their language and habits as one accepted into their circle.
These reminiscences, full of vivid people and happenings in early Brisbane, provide a readable, fascinating vision of the colonial life of Queensland, in particular of the Aboriginals seen through the eyes of one who was their friend. (book flap)
