Texan born Jack Fletcher was a veteran of the Kimberley pastoral industry. He was co-founder and managing director of the Australian Land and Cattle Company, which ran 100,000 head of cattle across seven stations during the 1970s-80s.
This book documents his experiences. He ambitiously attempts to develop a food bowl on 25,000 hectares of irrigated land at Camballin Farms. But before his dream could be realised, his $3 million levee was washed away by the floods of 1983.
Fletcher was a passionate advocate for damming the Fitzroy River. In 2018 he died aged 92.
