Edward Wilson (1872-1912) is one of the significant figures of the heroic age of Antarctic exploration. He was a member, as both a zoologist and a doctor, of both Scott's Antarctic expeditions: the Discovery in 1901-1904 and the Terra Nova in 1910-1913. He was one of those who died with Scott on the return journey from the South Pole early in 1912.
The South Pole Odyssey is based on extracts from the diaries Wilson kept during the Discovery and Terra Nova expeditions. They are fascinating and provide a close, personal account of the journeys, particularly the heroic and final march to the South Pole in 1912.
