Jim Lowrie emigrated from Liverpool in 1928 to take up farming at Cowaramup as part of the Group Settlement Scheme. Lowrie had been sponsored by the Young Australian League and went to work for Charles Smeath, part of Group 13.
Over the years, Lowrie witnessed many improvements in group settlement life, from very primitive conditions to the use of land clearing bulldozers, to milking machines and soil improvements with fertilisers.
