This book recounts the many ghost stories of Tasmania. Van Demien's Land was initially set up as a penal colony and is infamous for the brutalisation of a so-called criminal class and the near genocide of the Indigenous Aboriginals. From this torrid past comes many ghost stories attached to locations such as Port Arthur, Richmond Gaol, Garth House and St Andrews Inn. Some of these ghost stories involve sad and tormented ghosts while others include contented playful ghosts.
