Book Description

Secondhand. Good condition. Wear to book corners and edges, particularly at spine. Interior and binding are still excellent. Dust jacket has light creasing at top and tail.

At the time of publication in 1986, the Royal Military College had trained the Australian Army's officer corp for 75 years.

Three years after its establishment in 1911, its graduates were leading men in battle from the trenches of WWI. At the end of WWII, its graduates provided the majority of members of the Army's upper echelons. For 50 years, it has also made a unique contribution to the training of the New Zealand Army. From 1986, with the creation of the Australian Defence Force Academy, Duntroon underwent a major transformation.

This book is the fascinating story of Duntroons' first 75 years supplemented with a wealth of other materials gathered from wide sources - the recollections of cadets and staff, the papers of distinguished graduates and the writings of those involved with the special problems of training the armed forces of Australia. The result is a comprehensive and often lively account of the impact that a small, sometimes controversial, institution has had on national life. (book flap)
