In 1949, following reports that survivors of German raider Kormoran may have buried politically sensitive files at Cuvier Bay on the North West Coast of Australia, the Royal Navy sends Sam Lejeunne on paid leave to visit his family's station situated nearby to investigate.
Sam flies to Carnarvon, where an opportunity presents itself when George Roberts, owner of a coastal station close to the cave where the Germans camped, invites them all to join in excavating the site. The outcome is unexpected.
