In 1893, over 450 people left Australia to carve out a socialist utopia in the heart of Paraguay. The leader of the group was activist and author William Lane. Disharmony and disenchantment set in early with colonist leaving voluntarily or expelled. William Lane was one of the first to go and set up a nearby colony called Cosme. Gavin Soulter's book explored this little know piece of Australian history.
