About Us

Greetings, my name is Miriam Mortimore, and I am The Book Merchant.
I have spent over 20 years as a professional librarian managing specialist collections for government and large corporations. As a librarian, I know how difficult it is to track down books that are published independently by local historians or were published long ago and are now out of print, mostly languishing in rubbish dumps. These books don't always come up on a Google search and can't be bought from large online booksellers like Amazon or Booktopia. There might be a copy in your local library but you want your own copy that you can read many times. I wanted to bridge this gap and make these treasured history books available again. So I set up my own company and online bookstore. The books I choose to sell satisfy a Librarian’s compulsion to curate collections. All books are well researched and written, often award-winning. They are books that I would read and select if I were building a library collection. The Book Merchant specialises in Australian and Western Australian history and heritage, and Australian social and cultural diversity. These are topics that I feel passionately about as I believe that our history profoundly influences our present. I also know that much of Australia’s history has not been told or reached a wide audience. True stories of hardship, resilience and surviving in harsh environments. True stories of how communities formed and the attitudes they had towards “outsiders”. It is compelling reading and incredibly relevant to our society now. I am an eBook publisher too. Some of the books I want to sell simply aren't in hardcopy anymore and I will be creating eBooks so that my readers can access these books easily. Please enjoy browsing through my books. If you know of a book that I should consider selling or perhaps you’re a writer about to publish a new book? Please talk to me. Contact me via email or mobile. Best regards Miriam
