This book provides an exciting insight into the history of gold and gemstones in the Cape Naturaliste to Cape Leeuwin region of Western Australia. Gold was first discovered there in the 1880s, with the lost gold reefs and two gold rushes in 1896 and 1934.
This book contains personal accounts from settlers and prospectors and documents the effects that the search for gold had on them and the region. The Government's efforts to keep mining out of the area in the 1930s led to strict penalties for mining gold on group settlement leases.
Also included is a comprehensive guide with maps showing where gold and gemstones can be found, along with the region's geological makeup. (back cover)
